quote Seven Wonders: An Ax and a Crumpet

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Seven Wonders.”

Seven words isn’t much at all, especially considering how deep my love affair with words runs. But, since I am also fascinated with the art of communication as a whole, hand me the ax and I will happily chop my language down to seven measly survivors! I have selected words that are a) crucial to survival, and b) abstract, and therefore difficult to act out.

  1. Safe
  2. Dangerous
  3. Change
  4. Share
  5. Family
  6. Home
  7. Future

I am now imagining a scene from a show set in the Victorian era where the complex motivations have all been cut away and they are simply expressing themselves using combinations of these seven words. Passing around crumpets? “Share.” Gossiping about that woman with the outrageous sense of style? “Change. Dangerous.” No, style isn’t usually dangerous, but isn’t that really the sentiment that is under all that starch and ruffles?
